"Flamingo Lagoon" - 30x30cm
This painting is part of a 3-piece mini collection called "Summer Serenade".
The inspiration for this series came from the colours palette that I've chosen from the start. I wanted to have a dominant colour of turquoise/mint green and combine this with pinks, but then add some neutrals in to balance everything out. My love for bright and vibrant colours in my art represents deep exploration and dreaming. They are joyful and playful and take me back to childhood experimentation and simply having fun.
Playing with the elements of art of texture, layering and mark making creates beauty in the chaos that is balanced out by the calm in the aqua marine serenity.
Flamingos at Laguna Grande by David Mason
Dawn in the mist, the flamingos came
trumpeting from the marsh
like postillions of summer rain
or angels of the marsh.
The light was luminous,
the air effulgent with their cries, as fifty thousand rose and flared
in ecstasies of surprise.
Now like a fan their color burned,
now in a winking line
of salmon flame they turned and churned
to dance, to court, to shine.
It was a ballet of such grace
the eye could hardly take
the splendor in, or find a place
to rest for beauty's sake.
They seemed a vision come from far
of heaven, of the wild,
so strange and perfect that they are
no more than they are styled.
Yet there they were, their beauty rare
as any earthly thing,
as full of mystery and flare
as any voice can sing.
The morning passed, the flamingos flew
to other skies unknown,
and all the world seemed very new
and very much alone.
